In January 2016 we moved into our new Advanced Learning Centre, a professionally designed study centre that contains a variety of specialist study facilities, including ICT provision and personal study areas.
The building also houses a social area for the exclusive use of sixth form students, who also have access to a comprehensive school and careers library with high-quality resources that support the curriculum and the development of independent learning, as well as promoting reading for pleasure. In addition, all students have access to Newcastle University’s Robinson Library. Sixth formers are actively encouraged to use the libraries for both collaborative and quiet personal study.
Specific sixth form kitchen facilities and refreshments to purchase are available for students throughout the day in the social area, as is a TV showing News 24 to allow students to keep up to date with current affairs. During lunchtimes, students are able to listen to music or another channel of their choice.
We are extremely proud of these facilities and encourage you to contact us at any time to take a look around.
Support after year 13
Following their time at NE6, students follow a variety of paths. Many continue their education at university, some choose to enter their chosen profession whilst others opt for a gap year, either to broaden their experience of the world or to take a little more time to decide upon the direction they wish to take.
We support students in this decision-making process in a number of ways. For those who choose university, we make prospectuses available, organise day trips, invite representatives of universities to speak and offer personal advice about possible choices. Once choices have been made we offer a comprehensive support programme for the completion of the UCAS process. Following the receipt of final A level results, we continue to offer support to students in finalising the places they have chosen.
For students who decide that university is not for them, we offer the same level of support and guidance. Careers interviews are organised and support given in the application process. Where possible, we will help to organise work experience placements and do all that we can to help students place themselves in their chosen career.
