Ten ambitious Year 9 girls attended a Medicine and Dentistry (MaD) day at Newcastle University this week.
The day started with a dentistry lecture before students dove in and took part in a range of activities such as handling animal skulls, making models of teeth and working with medical students at the university's dental hospital.
In the afternoon, students attended a medical lecture which showed them the different areas they could potentially study. They were then taken to one of the medical laboratories where they carried out a range of tasks such as learning how to tie surgical knots, practising CPR and handling equipment that would be used for keyhole surgery.
It was a very interesting day that has got our students excited about a career in medicine or dentistry.
