Students at Bedlington Academy are celebrating receiving their A level results today after an unprecedented year.

The results are testament to the fantastic efforts of our students which demonstrate the hard work and determination they have given to their studies over the last two years. The result is many students off to study at university and college courses of their choice.

Top performers at the Academy include Megan Bell and Sara Appleby who both received a clean sweep of As in biology, chemistry and physics. Megan will now go on to study forensic science at the University of Cumbria and Sara will move on to the University of Sunderland to study pharmacy. Emily McClester is heading to York University to study politics and international relations after achieving an A in law and two Bs in psychology and English literature. Nathan Blaney also celebrates a fantastic set of results with distinctions in creative media and ICT, and a merit in applied science which has secured his place to study business and marketing management at Northumbria University.

Our Head of School, Joanna Lamb, commented: “We are really pleased with this set of results which reflect the hard work students have put in over the last two years and the rigorous assessments their teachers have made. This particular cohort have had their sixth form experience forever shaped by the consequences of the pandemic with the last few months proving to be a worrying time for them - it is wonderful therefore to see them celebrate their success today.

“Since joining the North East Learning Trust in 2018, our school has been on a programme of rapid improvement and staff and students have worked incredibly hard to steer the school on a path to outstanding. Our sixth formers’ hard work continues to shine through and we look to continue to build on this success year-on-year. We wish all of our students the very best of luck in their next steps, whether that be at university, in an apprenticeship or employment.”
