In recognition of World Book Day, our students and staff came together last week to celebrate creativity, wellbeing and the joy of reading.
Throughout the week, our students got involved in a range of activities designed to inspire a love of literacy, starting with a different book-related quiz each morning in registration. One of the many highlights of the day was seeing everyone so excited about our ‘Book Bingo’ challenge, which turned our school into a hub of excitement.
As part of the focus on reading for wellbeing, our students were also invited to write thoughtful book reviews reflecting on how stories can support mental and emotional health. Five lucky winners received some exciting prizes, including a selection of this year’s World Book Day titles and every student also received a World Book Day token, which are valid until Sunday 15th March and can either be spent on a free book, discount a book or audiobook of their choice.
The celebrations also extended to staff, who embraced the day by dressing as characters from their favourite books. Our staff sparked conversations and smiles with their costumes and brought reading to life by reading extracts of a short story throughout the day. Our students were intrigued by each new piece of the story, as well finding out which teacher would be reading next.
Thank you to all of our staff and students for making our World Book Day celebrations so special. Happy reading everyone!
