GCSE success for Bedlington Academy!

After another challenging year due to the pandemic, Bedlington Academy saw plenty of smiling faces this morning as students picked up their much-anticipated GCSE results. 

The results are testament to the hard work and determination that students have shown throughout their studies with a record number of strong passes across all subjects. 

Top performers who achieved grade 7 and above (or equivalent) in all subjects were:

Jake Irvine  - 6 grade 9s including English & Maths, 2 Distinction* 1 grade 8

Ryan Fisher – 6 grade 9s including English & Maths, 2 grade 8s

Sarah Greaves - 6 grade 9s, 1 Distinction* 2 grade 8s

Charlotte Davison - 3 grade 9s, 5 grade 8s and 1 grade 7

Saphyre Alexander - 2 grade 9s, 4 grade 8s, 2 Distinction*, 1 grade 7

Caitlyn Hankinson - 2 grade 9s, 6 grade 8s, 1 Distinction*

Caitlin Dinning – 2 grade 9s, 5 grade 8s, 1 Distinction*, 1 grade 7

Euan McLaren – 2 grade 9s, 5 grade 8s, 2 grade 7s, 1 L2 Distinction

Thomas Goss – 4 grade 8s, 2 Distinction*s, 3 grade 7s

A huge number of other students made fantastic progress from their starting points. Top performers for progress included Amy Todd, Ruby Barker, Kate Appleby, Christopher Blackwood, Lewis Coleman, Anya Cowen, Caitlin Hall, Kirsty McIntire, Chad Parker, Katie Thompson, Jack Shaw, Mollie Simon, Samara Paxton, Macey Godsmark, Savannah Harris and Cassie Graham, who all achieved excellent results across their subjects. 

Special mention goes to Ahmed Zahoor who joined the school in Year 11 and made outstanding progress during the year. Ahmed achieved strong passes in all subjects, including grade 8 in geography, 7s in chemistry and physics and a L2 Distinction in engineering.

Joanna Lamb, Headteacher at Bedlington Academy, said: 

“This has been a results day like no other. The pandemic has changed the way that this year’s GCSEs and vocational qualifications were assessed, and the students deserve huge credit for their resilience in these circumstances. 

“We are so proud of all our students and what they have achieved. We are delighted that so many of our Year 11s are staying with us in Sixth Form next year and we look forward to seeing them flourish in their A Level courses. We wish all of our students well in their futures.”

Toni Spoors, Executive Headteacher at Bedlington Academy and Deputy CEO of the school’s sponsor the North East Learning Trust, added:

“We are all enormously proud of our GCSE students who have adapted so well and risen to the challenges that the pandemic has posed. I wish them all the best of luck in their future endeavours.”
